Description - In many areas of the world, access to adequate menstrual supplies is difficult
to come by. Many women and girls rely on rags, newspaper, camel skin or nothing
at all for their menstrual needs. A lack of sanitary pads can be a big barrier
to a girl's education.
It may seem difficult to comprehend for many
women who have easy access to a varied source of supplies, but we can all
appreciate how difficult life would be without them. Imagine trying to go to
school or work without protection. For many, it brings life to a
halt.
Providing disposable supplies creates an additional burden on some
communities where solid waste disposal consists of burning the garbage. Since
many disposable feminine hygiene products contain plastic, incineration
potentially creates an environmental and health hazard.
Goods 4 Girls was started to seek out
donors to sew or purchase new, reusable menstrual pads for donations to areas of
Africa where these products are needed most. Providing reusable supplies not
only provides a more environmentally friendly alternative for these young women
(in areas of adequate water supply for washing), it reduces
their dependence on outside aid organizations to continue providing for their
monthly needs.
This donation package includes 3 of our 10" cloth menstrual pads with wings and three of our 6" cloth mini pads with wings. The cloth pad is constructed
of a top layer of 100% cotton flannel, a center layer consisting of hemp fleece and PUL, and a back layer of synthetic fleece. It has wings that snap to hold the pad close to your panties and also allow you to fold the pad and snap it shut in a little parcel for easy transport in your purse or bag! The mini pad is constructed of two layers of 100% cotton flannel and closes with snaps.
The donation sets are being sold at our cost and we will provide the shipping to the Seattle location of Goods 4 Girls on a monthly basis. We will construct these pads using a solid color flannel in assorted colors.
Materials - 100% cotton flannel in a solid color, hemp fleece, PUL, synthetic fleece, polyacetal resin snaps.
Measurements - The 10 inch pad is approximately 9.5" long and about 2.5" wide at
center. The 6 inch mini pad is approximately 6" long and about 2" wide at center.
