This is our 2008 Square Foot Garden. Several seasons ago we removed all the grass from our small urban back yard and replaced it with wood chips. Then we built wood frame raised beds and have been slowly adding perennials around the edges of the yard.

2 foot wide beds along the fence with our Western neighbors. This is where the tomatoes will be planted later on in the season. There is a small 2 foot wide bed on the North side of the lot with peas planted. The 4 foot x 4 foot bed near the pea bed will be planted with cabbage, brussel sprouts, and broccoli. The large 4 foot x 8 foot beds will be planted with beans, carrots, and perhaps more peppers. Picture taken early May 2008.

4 foot wide beds - we're planting romaine lettuce, beets, radishes, squash, and peppers (later on) in here. Picture taken early May 2008

Compost area - Picture taken early May 2008 before seasonal clean-up and compost rotation.

We were in the process of removing the dog kennel to add space for additional 2 foot wide beds along the fence lines. (the dog house was freecycled and the dog kennel went to a local hobby farmer to help him raise organic heirloom turkeys - we have 4 on order!)

Raspberry plants - Picture taken early May 2008

3 blueberry bushes planted on the South side of the house. Picture taken early May 2008. We added another bush in mid May.

4 rhubarb plants (recently transplanted) along the North side of the house and one plant on the West side. Picture taken early May 2008.
